Easter Island is a small 63-square-mile patch of land more than a thousand miles from the next inhabited spot in the Pacific Ocean. Around the year 1200 , a small group of Polynesians made their way there. When they arrived, the island was covered with almost 16 million trees, some towering 100 feet high. The palm trees provided coconuts for food and palm leaves for shade and shelter.
They practiced slash-and-burn agriculture, like we do with most of our forests today. They burned down trees, and began to multiply. Pretty soon the island had too many people, too few trees, and then, in only a few generations, no trees at all. Jared Diamond describes their actions in his book, Collapse, and says he wonders what the person who cut down the last of the tree providing them life was thinking. The book shows how other civilizations ended because people ignored the rules of nature as we are doing today.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicingt. “Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them and knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth.”
― Herman Hesse
We have damaged our only home, this Earth that has given us life, but we can still fix the problem by changing our thinking. When a fire breaks out, we don't ignore it, we fight it. We need to change our thinking. Too many humans feel our planet's many resources are simply commodities to be extracted and sold for a profit no matter how much it damages future generations. This thinking of taking all I want without thinking of others is not only rude, but history was not kind to Napolean, Adolf Hitler, and others following that path. We are all in this together. Instead of dealing with the problem, many think they can escape to Mars or have a fantasy that climate change will go away, but science does not support that thinking. We humans are the cause of climate change and also the only ones who can stop it.
Many Corporations will deny climate change because creating products with less pollution costs more. It is cheaper to have them in poor countries with fewer regulations, but pollution is global. Burning oil melts Arctic ice causes
flooding from Florida to Fiji. Oil companies spend millions on ads saying
humans don't cause climate change, yet thousands of studies and climate scientists say we do. Nazis leaders used the same tactic of "repeat a lie often
and it becomes the truth." Big oil is making record profits, so their lies work. Another big lie is plastic recycling. Most plastic is shipped to Asia where it is burned, creating massive pollution. Plastic makes big oil
richer. The way to solve the plastic pollution crisis is not to buy plastics.

Imagine your tax money being given to global corporations to produce products that damage both your health and the planet. It's not only legal, but happening every day until we make it stop. The good news is we can force them out of business by buying healthier products.
